Summer Training Camp

For Physical Education & Classroom Teachers

Active Schools Summer Training Camp

Join us for the first ever Active Schools Summer Training Camp from July 26-31, 2020 at the University of Northern Colorado, in partnership with their Active Schools Institute.

Physical Education and classroom teachers from around the country will become campers for a week and learn from peers and experts in the field on how to help students stay active and ready to learn.

Campers will leave with:

  • A clear understanding of the comprehensive school physical activity program (CSPAP) framework and their role in implementing it
  • An increased knowledge about school physical education and physical activity programs and available resources
  • Resources they need to implement new practices and programs
  • The confidence to share key learnings with administrators and staff
  • A new and growing community of practice with other participants

Training Schedule & Descriptions

Campers will select from trainings that address:

  • Physical education
  • Active recess
  • Integrating physical activity into classroom instruction
  • Classroom physical activity breaks
  • Inclusive physical education and physical activity
  • Before and after school programs
  • Fitness education
  • Physical activity technology
  • Advocacy

There are 29 hours of training available. Each training lasts from one hour to a half day, so teachers can participate in many trainings.

Teacher Scholarships

We are fundraising with the intention of providing teacher scholarships to offset the cost of camp for you. The typical scholarship will be $250 although some may be more or less. Priority will be given to teachers from Title I schools and/or schools with a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced price school meals.

As scholarships become available, we will communicate with all registered participants who can choose to apply if they qualify. As such, individuals who register for camp early will have more opportunities to apply for a scholarship.
