Let’s Move! Active Schools Announces 2016 SPARK Grand Prize Winner

SPARK, provider of the world’s most-researched and field-tested physical education (PE) programs, teamed up with Let’s Move! Active Schools to support Active School environments that integrate at least 60 minutes of physical activity before, during and after the school day.

Each Let’s Move! Active Schools champion that enrolled from June 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016, completed the Let’s Move! Active Schools Assessment, and indicated SPARK as the referring source was entered into a drawing to win an all-expenses paid trip to San Diego to attend a SPARK Institute for training in their research-based physical education program.

The grand prize winner is Robert Romeo, Health/Physical Education teacher at Woodland Park Memorial Middle School located in Woodland Park, New Jersey. Robert attended the SPARK Middle School PE Institute in San Diego July 25-26, 2016. The prize included flight, hotel, Institute registration, and the SPARK Middle School PE digital curriculum.

“I’m always looking for new & innovative ways to enhance my district’s Physical Education program, and Let’s Move! Active Schools provides 21st century resources that enable me to do so. It’s great to be involved with an initiative that understands teachers and provides them with tools needed to help them succeed,” said Robert.

Asked about winning the all-expenses paid trip to the SPARK Institute, “Attending the SPARK Middle School PE Institute was such a blast, an experience I will not forget! It was as fun and active as I try to make every one of my Physical Education classes. I learned so much from this and the SPARK curriculum to incorporate into my class that I can’t wait for the next school year to start!”

SPARK will partner with Let’s Move! Active Schools again this year, encouraging schools to enroll by offering sign-up contests throughout the 2016-2017 school year.
