38 Schools Awarded Prizes for Active Schools Progress

Thirty-eight schools from across the country are being celebrated for their progress in creating an Active School environment and have been selected to receive physical education/physical activity equipment, materials and training to help applaud and support their efforts.

“We know that changing a school culture is no easy feat, so it is important to celebrate improvement and incremental successes along the way,” said Charlene Burgeson, Let’s Move! Active Schools Executive Director.

“Thanks to the generosity of our partners, Let’s Move! Active Schools can recognize schools making active and healthy changes and reward them with additional physical education and physical activity resources to help continue their great work.”

To be eligible to win, a school must have made improvements in at least one area of its Let’s Move! Active Schools Action Plan and note this success by marking the item complete. Then, all eligible schools are entered into a quarterly drawing and randomly selected.

Of the 305 schools that marked an Action Plan item complete during the second quarter of the program (December 1, 2015- February 29, 2016), 12% received a prize. During the first quarter (September 1- November 30, 2015), 45 schools were awarded progress incentives.

Over the course of 2015-16 academic year, 150 schools in total will receive a Let’s Move! Active Schools progress incentive. Other progress incentive periods are:

  • March 1-May 31, 2016
  • June 1-August 31, 2016

Congratulations to the following schools that were awarded a progress incentive during the second quarter:
