WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today at the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA)’s Building a Healthier Future Summit, Let’s Move! Active Schools (a sub-initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign) announced that Athletes for Hope, GoNoodle, Good Sports, Kids in the Game and Safe Routes to School National Partnership will join its national collaborative aimed at ensuring 60 minutes of physical activity is the new norm in schools across the country.
The five newcomers join 14 leading health and education organizations in supporting Let’s Move! Active Schools. Each supporter contributes key expertise, resources, services or financial support to raise awareness of how physical activity improves academic success and commits to help grow the number of schools with physical activity and physical education policies, practices and environments.
“The addition of Athletes for Hope, GoNoodle, Good Sports, Kids in the Game and Safe Routes to School National Partnership extends the reach and capability of Let’s Move! Active Schools– from fostering new champions to better engaging schools throughout the process,” said Let’s Move! Active Schools Executive Director Charlene Burgeson. “Ultimately, these five organizations strengthen our collective impact on curbing childhood obesity and helping kids reach their greatest potential—in the classroom and in life.”
Here’s how each will support Let’s Move! Active Schools:
- Athletes for Hope will administer an athlete visit program, connecting schools with sports leaders who can speak with students about the importance of physical activity.
- GoNoodle will conduct targeted outreach campaigns to help teachers incorporate physical activity into the school day.
- Good Sports will offer sports equipment grant application priority for schools enrolled in Let’s Move! Active Schools.
- Kids in the Game will make available $250,000 in grant funds exclusively for schools enrolled in Let’s Move! Active Schools.
- Safe Routes to School National Partnership will increase its commitment to Let’s Move! Active Schools by making a portion of its Fire Up Your Feet Challenge Awards exclusively available to schools enrolled in Let’s Move! Active Schools.
Studies show that active kids do better: Physical activity not only helps kids stay healthy and strong, but it can also lead to higher test scores, improved attendance, better behavior in class and lower rates of childhood obesity.
The Let’s Move! Active Schools national collaborative works together to transform the physical activity and physical education culture in America’s schools. By streamlining the selection of programs, resources, professional development and funding opportunities and delivering each school a customized Action Plan, Let’s Move! Active Schools results in students moving for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended 60 minutes a day.
Since its March 2013 launch, more than 14,300 schools have registered for Let’s Move! Active Schools, and more than 8 million students have been impacted by the initiative. Let’s Move! Active Schools strives to reach 50,000 schools and 25 million students by 2018.

“Good Sports is thrilled to be a part of the Let’s Move! Active Schools collaborative. And by partnering with Let’s Move! Active Schools, we can ensure the school environment is one where access to activity and the benefits are available and encouraged.” – Melissa Harper, CEO Good Sports
