Physical Activity During School

Since joining the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program in 2010, students now get 45 minutes of PE a day and keep moving in at least five of their normal classes for a total of more than 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Principal Jennifer Cedeno attributes her eighth graders’ nearly perfect scores in language arts to the school’s commitment to health. An innovative video competition recently inspired older students to engage younger students through “active” spoofs of popular TV shows (like “Dancing with a Teacher”).
