Pottstown High School Wins LearnFit Active Schools Essay Contest
Pottstown, PA | News Story
Pottstown High School‘s (Pottstown, PA) students will soon be sitting a lot less and participating in much more active learning, thanks to winning the 2016 LearnFit® Active Schools Essay Contest.
From more than 400 entries nationwide, Pottstown High School was selected to receive a full classroom of LearnFit® Adjustable Standing Desks (package valued at ~$16,500) provided by Ergotron.
From Nov. 1 –Dec. 9, 2016, K-12 schools across the country were encouraged to enter for a chance to win. To be eligible, schools had to be enrolled in Let’s Move! Active Schools with a completed online assessment and submit a 500 word essay answering “How would a classroom full of LearnFit® mobile sit/stand desks help create a more Active School environment and improve health and learning outcomes for your students?”
Research shows that introducing standing into the classroom has a positive impact on student health, classroom engagement and academic performance. David Genova, Wellness Coordinator for Pottstown School District, noted these proof points and the transformative impact standing desks would have on his students’ learning environment and capabilities:
“Pottstown High School is taking a stand for their health, literally. We are leading the charge for flexible learning environments, like standing desks. Recognizing the need to stand, have personal space and when to refocus to enhance student learning is a regular practice. Desks that can be moved around and pushed together to collaborate will contribute to active learning. When used carefully and purposefully, movement can lead to a more focused, productive, and discipline classroom. Standing desks will help us to strive for our ultimate goal: independent, confident, productive and happy students!”
Ergotron will host an event at Pottstown High School later this winter to rally the entire school community around the installation of the LearnFit® mobile sit/stand desks.
